Oxytocin: The Antiviral to Combat Covid-19

couple, african, happy

Oxytocin, the love hormone, could be the greatest defense we have against Covid-19.

There are several academic papers now proposing that Oxytocin is the antiviral to combat Covid-19. There is no definitive research, but it is promising. The hypothesis is that oxytocin is a natural DPP4 inhibitor, and the very same has been proposed as a treatment for Covid-19. Read the hypothesis here.

I don’t want to get too bogged down in the scientific terminology, but I’d like to think that oxytocin, with all its benefits, is the one thing we can all give ourselves and each other. Hugging increases oxytocin, not just sex and birth. There has to be at least one person in your life you can hug. I know we have been encouraged to social distance, but if you knew that oxytocin could help you lower your risk of getting Covid-19 or fighting it, I’ll bet you could find someone to hug.

I’m not promoting anything you feel would be unsafe. I would like to think I’ve been protected partially because I have not stopped hugging. If Covid-19 is passed from the spew from talking, coughing, and yelling, then there is no harm in hugging someone with your face turned away. This is what I’ve been doing, and I’m not going to stop.

Imagine my great smile when I came across this hypothesis about Oxytocin being the antiviral to combat Covid-19!!

You can improve your overall health with a boost in oxytocin.  There is a dry inhaler that has been produced recently that promises to be an easy way to get more, especially if you aren’t around anybody you can hug or snuggle with, or you choose not to right now.

This virus is going to be around for a while, from what I have read about the behavior of viruses. We need to change our behavior to help stop the spread, and eventually the sickness and the death.  To tell us to stop hugging, and connecting with others is just like death. We are not meant to live in isolation and we need human contact.

I say Oxytocin for the win to combat Covid-19. Are you with me?
